about
Jennifer Pullman is an artist of expressionist style with focus on nature and human life. These are interpreted through diverse shapes, colours, and perspectives to convey various meanings and narratives. Some are painted with soft, simple brushstrokes while others include layers of paint to create surface texture and depth to the subject matter. Both painting styles aim to bring everyday scenes, places, and memories of life on canvas. The artist focuses on the celebration and memory of landscape and human histories through various themes. Both natural and urban subjects express meaning of the outside world. The result may be coined contemporary and expressive with gestural mark making creating an impression of spontaneity.
statement
My creative vision centres mainly on abstracted forms of nature and everyday life. I react to the physical and sensory environment, revealing ways that air and light impacts value, form, texture, and space. Focus is drawn to the emotional landscape we all inhabit, and meaning is made of it. Each place is interpreted differently and results in a various outcomes and effects. Some elements are distorted, omitted, or enhanced and allows the viewer to let their imagination finish the scene. Observing, sensing, and attempting to record these as I perceive these in my surroundings is important. It builds compositions that have a solid design and a distinct sense of place.
